Oh the symmetry: GIMM X PEEP

I am so humbled by your enthusiasm and interest in this passion project of mine, to work with Gimm from Bangkok!
Needing some inspiration and a creative outlet during the many lockdowns of 2021, I reached out to this master craftsman @gimmeyewear and couldn't have imagined how fun and perfect the collab would be.

And the collection's reception by you, our eyewear family has been the ultimate validation of what we do and why we do it 🙏
Thank you for just "getting it" and being daring and open to frames that are singular, custom made and a lil' bit Memphis 〰️

So what goes into a truly handmade frame? Where do

So what goes into a truly handmade frame? Where do we begin??
Some of the major differences between Gimm's wonderfully small craftsmanship compared to your everyday frames are:

✍️ Each frame is hand sketched with custom proportions for the nose bridge, lens and temple before translation into a 2D illustrator.

🪚 Acetate sheets are then hand sawn and then filed to the correct dimensions.

🍔 A traditional sandwich technique is used to insert the metal core wire that runs in the temples of the frames, rather than relying on the big machinery that is required for the high powered injection method of bigger operations.

💅 It takes one full day to polish the frames by hand to a high level of gloss. This is after the 72 hours of tumbling with wood chips that is the initial stage of buffing.

🛠️ Gimm uses his expertise in silversmithing and jewellery making to combine silver with metal alloys for frames with metal detailing.

These are just some of the many processes that go into a custom made frame and we are so honoured to be able to bring this super special collaboration of 10 frames to Yarraville!

Truly handmade and sculpted from start to finish, you might be surprised at all the different steps that go into a frame that isn't produced by big machinery and en masse (more details in our next post).
These frames need to be seen and felt in person, to appreciate the mastery and craftsmanship of their construction.
